Often when it comes to insurance, one size does not fit all. Some people may opt for paying a higher premium on their vehicle(s) for more peace of mind with lower deductibles and/or higher liability limits. Still, others may be looking for ways to save the most they can by lowering limits or eliminating extra coverages. Regardless of one’s choice in coverage, there are usually “blind spots” when it comes to insuring risks. Here are a few examples for all types of policy holders:
“I have enough coverage.”
You may believe you have enough coverage for most common claims. But what about when a claim payout exceeds your liability limits and now the other party is coming after you legally? This may sound extreme, but it is a reality. Now you are out of luck, especially if you decided to go with the inexpensive but lower liability limits. To prepare for situations such as these, it’s always best to review your policies and meet with your agent about choosing policy limits and additional coverage options, like an umbrella insurance policy.
“I only want to carry insurance for a little while. I’ll start it up again later.”
Constantly purchasing and canceling policies may lead to increased rates due to consequent events of carrying no insurance. It may be to your advantage to purchase insurance and hold it long-term, taking into account paid-in-full discounts, even if you have some upcoming instances where you personally consider the coverage unnecessary.
“I don’t need more life insurance coverage, I have enough to cover my salary if I go.”
You may consider your job’s salary but, at the same time, forget about extra business-owner expenses or debts accrued.
